A Little Bit About Mrs. Behlke:
When I was in the sixth grade, I was voted "Most Likely to Become a Teacher" by my teacher and classmates. I have been teaching middle school on the Paradise Ridge since 2000, so I guess they were right! My curricular areas of focus are history and language arts. I am passionate about encouraging my students to learn to love reading, teaching them to be strong writers, and to become independent "thinkers" about history and the world around them. I love middle school students and I am thrilled to teach at PCMS.
At PCMS, we are lucky to have the unique scheduling flexibility to allow a 2-hour "homeroom block" in our day for 6th graders. This means that 6th grade students will travel in a group throughout the day and will have a two-hour block of time with me. During this block, we will cover both English and history. This flexible scheduling will allow the 6th graders to stay longer in a focused group with one less transition in their day. It will also allow for thematic teaching, encourage team-building, and provide time to foster the sense of community we thrive on at PCMS.
My husband and our two sons and I live in Chico now, but we grew up in Sierra City and Downieville, a couple of tiny towns nestled in the High Sierras up HWY 49. Visiting our friends and family who still live in these mountains is one of our favorite things to do any season of the year.

My Mission Statement as an Educator:It is my mission as an educator of middle school students to create opportunities for learning that will inspire passion. I will make personal connections with my students, incorporate lessons intended to teach kindness, trustworthiness, and integrity, and lead them to be active thinkers who make connections with the world around them.
