We have been away from school and our usual routines for a whole week now. You guys, this is unexpected and unfair, especially after all you have been through over the past year and a half. Everything is difficult, confusing, and new... again.

Last week, I asked you to watch this video and challenged you to rise to meet this moment head-on. I would like you to watch the video again and then tell me:

What are some ways you have found to to build community, to take care of one another, and stay rooted in love so far? Describe what your "stay at home" day is like. What are you doing to make the most of your time? If you haven't done much so far, what are some changes you will make to ensure you walk away from this experience a better person?

If the link below doesn't work, watch the video on Vimeo HERE.

My stay at home days are pretty boring. What I do is get my homework done for the day then I go and play. Sometimes if I haven’t finished yesterday's work I skip breakfasts. What I do for fun is go play on my trampoline and watch youtube. This is really all I do on my stay at home days.

Hello Logan,
I'm glad you are doing your homework and having some fun on the trampoline! Getting outside has been super important for my wife and I to stay "sane". If you have some time, try learning to juggle. My guess is you will be a natural :)
I look forward to seeing you again before the school year ends.

I have done nothing so far but do homework, play basketball, and try to make my mom less freaked out about this "Covid 19" disease. The reason is because I know we are going to be fine even if some of us get it we are going to push through just like we did with the Camp Fire. After all that we have been through we are still here and now we are all scared of some tiny little disease. We should stay home but we should also not worry because after this is over we will be back together and fine.

Hello Noah,
You have a really positive attitude. I like that! Be patient with the adults in your life; we grown up types tend to get a bit more stressed since we have to deal with adult issues. When I was your age basketball was my number one sport. It makes me smile thinking of you out shooting hoops. Work on your game. Focus on good shooting technique and ball handling skills. Perhaps you can play on the Bulldog B-Ball team next year. I'm really looking forward to seeing you sometime before the school year ends.

I think that the best way to stay a community or build a community is to stay in contact with each other. If you understand what's going on in your community then you can make it better. When you are forced to stay home it is kind of hard, but you have to keep in contact with other people. At home I like to ride my bike and shoot hoops. I also like to watch TV. All are things that I have done over the past week, but hanging out with my family has been the best.

Greetings Michael,
It sounds like you are doing some really positive things to keep yourself active and engaged. Bike riding and basketball, YES! My wife and I ride our bikes two or three times a day to help stay healthy and sane. You understand what is really important and lasting in life; FAMILY. I hope to see you in person before the school year ends. Keep shooting hoop, riding, and enjoying your family.

What I have done since last week I would wake up, have breakfast and then go on a bike ride around town then I would get home then I would play with my puppy and do my work for the day and then I would go play basketball or watch a movie, or go play with my new neighbors. That is what I did last week.

Hello Will,
You must be really thankful that your family got a puppy just at the right time! Dogs are such great companions. My wife is trying to talk me into getting an adorable English Sheep Dog puppy. Only problem, when they grow up, they are HUGE! Riding bikes and shooting hoop are really positive ways to spend your time. Make sure to fit in some time each day to do school work. I sure miss seeing you throw a football. You have an incredible arm!

My life at home is pretty boring. I do chores, watch tv, play games, and go on walks. Also if I fall behind on homework I skip breakfast. For fun I go in my pool and work in our game room. My grandma has been getting really nervous about the Coronavirus so we have family game nights to get her mind off it.

Hello Maddie,
How sweet of you to do game nights with your grandma. Perhaps, later in life, you will look back on these couple of crazy months as being special in a strange sort of way. Walks, and chores, and school work, and game room time; it sounds like you are filling your days up with good things. You really go in your pool??? It must be FREEZING!!! I lhope to see you again in person before the school year ends.

My life at home is currently very busy and chaotic. I do my homework until it's all done for the day now and I try to keep up. It’s really boring where I am but it’s very far away from any other house and my neighbors are really far from us and it’s no problem staying at home but it can get boring without school and I am really freaked out, not only because of the Pandemic, but also the time away from school and how long we will be staying at home. I really do miss school and my teachers a lot and I am moving on. At home is still chaotic because all of us have work or homework frome school and our puppy can’t stop bothering us. Anyway I miss school and it is really boring and I miss you all!

Hello Sakura,
Ditto what you said; I MISS SEEING EVERYONE AT SCHOOL IN PERSON! I'm glad to hear you have plenty of property and space to get out and not have to worry about "social distancing". You mentioned being bored. I have an idea, if you are interested, give juggling a try. I sent the 6th grade links to videos that will help you create your own juggling objects and then teach you how to juggle. If that isn't of interest, take a hobby you already have, and try to become even more skilled at it. I sure hope to see you in person before this school year ends. Hang in there Sakura!

Hello Lexi,
You are turning your garage into a game room. Grand idea! I hope you are enjoying the process of transforming your garage. That's neat that your parents are allowing you to do this. I also notice "chores" as part of your day. You may not enjoy doing chores now, what kid does!, but as you grow up you will be thankful your folks taught you to share in the work of the family. When I was a kid my chores including helping my mom rake and vacuum the carpet (yes, we "raked" the thick shag carpet before we vacuumed), mowing the lawn for dad, and having my own paper route to make my own $$$.
All this to say, way to do your chores girl :) I hope to see you in person before the school year ends.

My stay at home day is relaxing. It is relaxing because I get my homework done and take little breaks in between. It’s also relaxing because I’m at home. I wish I were at school to see you guys, but this time with my family is awesome. I’m thinking about the corona virus and I think that schools are going to go on lock down for quite a long time. I think we shouldn’t be afraid of it, because I found out that corona means crown, so it’s caled the crown virus. My stay at home is nice, and I love spending time with my siblings and family.

It is so good to hear you talk about your attitude towards this challenging time. You are taking the time to enjoy your family. Rather than have an anxious or bitter heart, you seem to be thankful for this time at home. Good for you! Doing your school work with little breaks every so often is a smart way to operate. I agree with you; I also wish to see everyone in person. My hope is that will happen before this school year ends. Happy Monday!

We all need to stay together even if we can’t see eachother we have to stay in touch to keep this community together. Since we can’t really see each other or we all have to be six feet apart we should all look out for one another. Talk to our friends on the phone to see if they're okay because they might not be don’t lose friendships just because you can’t see each other. I've been doing a lot of self care during this time. I love to make myself feel better and be more confident. Like putting on face mask’s or cleaning my room. Since we all are just doing nothing at home we all love to eat but i've been running almost every day and working out at the track in paradise at night to keep me feeling healthy and good. I know we all are hating this but try to make the best of it!

Hello Lilly,
You shared some really important thoughts in your post. We need to stay connected with others for sure. Have you been able to chat with your friends and encourage one another? I also think you are very wise to focus on staying in shape, which is not only good for our physical health, but also good for our mental health! I bet your folks are loving you keeping your room tidy :) Hopefully you are not finding it too difficult to keep up with your school work. Reach out to your teachers if you have any needs. They want to help and connect with you. Please say hello to your entire family. I'm so thankful the Rowe's have been part of PCMS!!! Some ways I have found to build community and staying rooted in love is helping one another and being kind to people. One way I stay rooted in love is by being kind. The way I help someone is by listening to others when they ask for help. During my stay at home day I try to practice being kind and helpful in building our family community; sometimes it’s hard with my little brothers home too. My stay at home day looks like this; in the morning I get up and do my morning get ready for school day but instead of going to school when I’m ready I go to the kitchen table. I go through my classes and get my assigned work done. Once I'm done with my school work I like to find a quiet place and go play video games on my tablet. I also like building stuff with legos. Throughout the day I practice being kind and helpful by helping my mom with the chores around the house and I practice being patient with my brothers at home. Right now this is our community now that we're quarantined in the house.

Hopefully as the weather gets better and warmer you will find your school work to be a bit more enjoyable. It is also no fun to be away from all our friends and teachers. I'm working in my guest bedroom right now. It's O.K. but I sure prefer being with all of you every day. Let's try to make the best of a tough situation. Attitude is huge during these challenging times. Stay positive and try to focus on one thing to be thankful for each day; good food, family....I hope to see you in person before the school year ends.

Ways I have found to build a community is to keep it together, it is not always easy especially right now. But we have devices we talk to eachother on, but seeing eachother face to face is better. The ways I have been spending days are homework, getting ready for our baby chicks. And watching TV, having dinner, and a shower. It is pretty boring, I am excited to see everyone again because there is no one to hang out with, but my brothers and I prefer not to do that.

Yes indeed. The days would be much more exciting if we could actually be with one another again! You mentioned waiting for baby chicks. That sounds pretty neat. Is this the first time or does your family do this yearly? My wife has always wanted chicks but now that we live in Chico on a small piece of property I don't think that is going to happen. My hope is we get to see everyone in person again before this school year ends. You are a great student, and more important, a really neat young lady. Some ways I have found to build a community are to keep in touch, keeping in touch with everyone is important to know what's going on and what’s still relevant. Group chats also are pretty good to build a smaller community because if you and someone else are talking then someone joins and then more people join and it goes on like that. I usually don’t have a schedule during the day, usually i just stay up really late until around 3:00 am. I usually wake up around 12:00 in the morning and go straight to our game room that has my gaming pc, a big screen TV, A big L shaped couch with a futon. It has a running machine and we’ve replaced the garage doors with giant glass doors.I have my VR headset and my Xbox in there. I usually first do homework, take a break, and then do more homework late at night in my loft bed. That’s just what I do at my dad’s house at my mom's house. It's the same schedule, just different things. It sucks having to go from house to house every week.

Hello Sonny,
Thanks for sharing about what you do during these strange days of staying at home. I agree with you; staying in touch with people is really important especially during times such as this. That's why I'm writing to you and your classmates. You seem to have a routine in place though I'd encorage you to try and get to sleep sooner so you can awaken at a bit more "normal" time. If you stay on your current schedule, once we get back together, school hours will be a SHOCK to your system! I'm working out of my home. I break up the day with bike rides and walks. It has also been fun to help my wife make meals. Ultimately, I hope to be back at PCMS sooner rather than later to see you and enjoy a more normal life with our BULLDOG community. Homework and chores are probably your least favorite parts of your days? Good for you for putting those early in the day and making them a priority. I am going to explain what my day is like. Usually, my day is really stressful, but today is pretty calm. I work on my homework while my parents play games on their play stations. My sister (she is four) watches her tablet and runs around the house. I stay up on my bed when I work. My mom wants me to get ready for the day, but I am too lazy to get ready. What’s the point in getting ready anyway, I just stay in bed and work on my homework. I also do chores, just not as often now. That is my boring day, I do this almost every day. Have a great day!!!

Hello Elly,
Thank you for honestly sharing your feelings. We can all relate in certain ways for sure. Four year olds can be a huge challenge when you are trying to get things done! And your comment, "What's the point in getting ready..." is an honest question. Here is what has helped me. Creating some routine in my new reality working from home. I get up and make some tea before heading to my "office" to look at my schedule for the day. After working for several hours I take a break and ride bikes or walk with my wife. I even try to keep up on chores ( a few mintues ago I cleaned the kitty litter tub -ugh!). Doing your school work, completing your chores, cleaning up; these are all things that will help you make it through this challengning time. I'm looking forward to being back at school and seeing you and all the BULLDOG family hopefully before the school year ends!
So, try to be patient with your little sis, do your school work and chores, and then enjoy the freedom of the remainder of your day.

I have been trying to be more helpful around the house since we’ve been home all day. I’m trying to focus on being positive.
My stay at home day so far involves homework in my pajamas and much more P.E. The weather has mostly been nice, so my brother and I are climbing trees and swinging on our rope swing. It hailed and snowed a few days ago, and we went out to play in it. School from home is harder for me. I’m trying to make a plan to stay focused instead of playing outside all day. My stay at home schedule is wake up around 6:00 or 6:30 and then i have breakfast and after breakfast i go into my room and read my book after that i do chore and clean my room after that i do whatever i want until i get bored and then when i am bored i work on school work until everything is done and then i go back to doing whatever i want and after that i go and eat diner and after diner i do whatever i want. So far my days at home are basically just what I would do on any other weekend except I have homework. Some changes I will make to ensure that I walk away from this experience a better person are: Helping out around the house more, spending less time on electronics, and spending time with my family. I don’t understand how I could “build the community” during this time but I found that some ways to take care of each other are to communicate more even if it’s over a device.

What have I been doing to help the community lately? I haven’t been doing much. I have mostly just been staying on my property and not doing much. When you think about it I am helping the community by staying home, because I’m not spreading the virus if I don’t know I have it and I’m not bringing it back home. What have I been doing to grow closer to my family? I haven't really been trying to do this. I’m just trying to keep things as normal as possible. Plus trying to bond with my family probably wouldn’t work, don’t ask why.

How can I build our community while I’m at home? I can tell people how something is going to come out of this; people can gain something from this? Well we can all spend more time with our family and get to know them better, we can learn from each other and help each other too. This we can all do from home with devices and also just talking to your family. This is how we can build community while we are home.

Our community has been standing strong like we have always been but our community has been taking care of each other by getting something from the store for your neighbor because they might be old and can’t go to the stores. Through this unexpected break I have been “rooted in love” by my family while we are staying home and going up to our paradise property. My schedule has been like;
1. Wake up and eat breakfast.
2. Do school work.
3. Go to paradise.
4. Go home and eat dinner.
5 go to bed.
This is what my day is mostly like.

What I have been doing stuck at home is doing work for the teachers and catching up. Other than that I am doing things like going outside and playing with a baseball and a bungie. I also may have been doing some more drawings and make some good ones. I was emailing some old teachers from elementary. What I can't wait to do while I'm off from school is that I'm going to L.A. for my cousin's birthday for 10 days. I don't know why I always drive there, But if we wanted to fly I probably can't because of the you-know-what. Other than that I cant wait to see everyone again and go back to school.

Right now the number one thing we can do to help our community is to stay home even though it is really boring. We can also check in on our neighbors, friends, and the elderly because it's really difficult and hard to stay inside for so long. My daily routine is trying to get school done in the morning and then find activities to do for the rest of the day.

Each day, I break away from my new remote office at home every several hours and take a bike ride or a hike. I hope to see you and all our BULLDOG family before this school year ends.

What I do on my days home is get up watch TV eat then do homework for the day. After I do all my homework I watch stuff about the movie AVP on YouTube. And if I don't want to watch YouTube I play video games and watch Netflix.

Hello Caleb,
I miss seeing you! How are you doing? Are you finding some balance between doing your school work, chores to help the family, and playing and getting some exercise? It is so important to do all of those things while we are living in this strange kind of new reality for a little while. Please say hello to your entire family for me. I hope to see you in person with the entire BULLDOG family before the school year ends.

My stay at home day is pretty boring and relaxing. When I wake up I get ready and eat breakfast. After I eat breakfast I start on my school work and I do part of it so I’m not doing school work for a long period of time. While I take a break I paint or build a puzzle or go outside. Then I get started on the other half of my work. During my day I like to put face masks on or paint my nails. At night I take a shower and get ready for bed. That’s also the time I like to read my book. When I’m done reading my book I watch a movie sometimes and go to bed.

Some ways I have found to build my community are to hangout with my more get to know them more. Normally my day is I wake-up up I'll get started on homework I'll have lunch while I watch TV then I'll do more homework and then I when I'm done I'll just relax and do some stuff but when im done sometimes I'll go outside if it's a nice day. I think what I do to make the most of my time is to hang out with my family and spend time with them and get to know them more.

This situation that we’re in really sucks, but I’ve found that the best way to build and keep our community is to keep in touch and interact with each other. Sure we can’t literally interact with people in person these days, but you can still do a lot with the technology we have. We have resources like FaceTime, Zoom, Snapchat, etc. which allows us to do those things. Lately, I’ve been keeping up with my friends and making the best of it. I really miss all of them and wish that everything can be back to normal. Anyway, we have the resources today to keep up with each other, so why not use it?

Hello Grace,
I love your positive spin on a difficult time that, as you said, "sucks". You are looking at the silver lining as you realize modern technology does allow us to interact with others near and far. But I agree, being face to face with our BULLDOG FAMILY is far more enjoyable. I hope you are finding some good ways to break up the boredom of being inside and away from people outside your family. You are such a terrific student I'm sure school is not a huge challenge. Make sure you balance school with helping around the house and playing and having fun. You need all of that!

What we are experiencing is very hard because we are not allowed to communicate that well with eachother well except for tecnology but I mean literaly coming in contact with people like hugging, going to school and things like that. I personaly think this is so hard.

Hello Ali,
Your post is very honest. It sure is hard not being around friends and teachers face to face! I hope you are finding a good balance between school work, helping around the house, and playing and getting some fresh air. Are you connecting with your friends in positive ways using social media? I hope to see you and our entire BULLDOG Family before the school year ends.

A way I have found to build the community is going out and playing basketball. even though it is a very little thing I think it is building a community, because every person who walks by who is walking their dog or just walking smiles a smile on someone's face what time is pretty important I think what's making them smile is seing someone actually outside enjoying the sun having fun. I think another way they are getting through this time calling or FaceTiming someone. In this terrible time a lot of people need to talk to someone like a friend that's why calling and FaceTiming is very important. What I'm doing to make most of the time go by is probably watching Netflix Are just hanging out in the living room with my family. I think I can walk away from this a better person by knowing anything can change So everyday the best you can and enjoy life as much as you can.

Hello Aaron,
Your post is very thoughtful. I'm not surprised you are taking advantage of this time to shoot hoop. When I was your age my hoop was actually drilled to the wall above our garage door. My folks were really patient with me and all the racket I created shooting all the time. How are you doing? Are you able to find a balance between getting your school work done, helping out your family, and playing and getting lots of fresh air? It will be a great day when the entire BULLDOG FAMILY can be together again before the end of the year. That is my hope. If you keep honing your basketball skills you may just DOMINATE the staff when you are in 8th grade :)

Honestly the way to build communities is just being nice to one another. For most of my time i’m painting or playing basketball but I always take a chunk out of my day to hang out with my family. I think I should take more time to hang out with my family.

My stay at home life is pretty boring so far and I haven’t learned much from this so far. All I've really learned is some cooking skills and a little more ukulele. Mostly all I've done so far is work. Some changes I may make to ensure that I come out of this a “better” person is get better at drawing, learn more ukulele, trying to be as positive as I can be.

Hello Emberley,
Your goals are fantastic; improving on the ukulele, drawing, getting school work done, and being a positive person. I hope those things are helping you fight the boredom! Please say hello to your family including your grandparents. I sure hope we will see one another in person before the school year ends.

I communicate with my family by just knowing what we want or we talk like normal people sometimes we don't know what we want but sometimes we don't get along with each other very well.

In my daily routine all I really do is time with my family try to do my school work if I don't get distracted. After I do all my work I spend some time outside and just enjoy the sun, after that I just sit and watch TV and try to do something productive.
